Surat ini terdiri atas 110 ayat, termasuk golongan surat-surat Makkiyyah. Dinamai 'Al Kahfi' artinya 'Gua' dan 'Ashhabul Kahfi' yang artinya: 'penghuni-penghuni gua'. kedua nama ini diambil dari cerita yang terdpaat dalam surat ini pada ayat 9 sampai dengan 26, tentang beberapa orang pemuda yang tidur dalm gua bertahun-tahun lamanya.

We ordained for them in the Torah, "A life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth—and for wounds equal retaliation.". But whoever waives it charitably, it will be atonement for them. And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the wrongdoers.
Al-Baqarah Ayat 45 وَاسْتَعِيْنُوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلٰوةِ ۗ وَاِنَّهَا لَكَبِيْرَةٌ اِلَّا عَلَى الْخٰشِعِيْنَۙ ( البقرة: ٤٥ ) wa-is'taʿīnū وَٱسْتَعِينُوا۟ dan mohonlah pertolongan bil-ṣabri بِٱلصَّبْرِ dengan sabar wal-ṣalati وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِۚ dan sholat wa-innahā وَإِنَّهَا dan sesungguhnya ia lakabīratun لَكَبِيرَةٌ sungguh berat illā إِلَّا
